Personal Digital Camera Policy

Personal digital cameras can place less stress than photocopying or scanning on archive materials, save time and lessen reproduction costs, and reduce environmental impact. Researchers may be allowed at the sole discretion of Archives and Special Collections (ASC) to use personal digital cameras (cell phone, point & shoot, and tablet cameras) within ASC to copy materials. ASC will not approve use of flash lighting, copying that puts materials at risk, or requests inconsistent with archival practices.

• Copies are for personal use and research only; do not publish, broadcast, or disseminate without written approval from the Director of ASC and compliance with copyright law.
• Use the template provided by ASC staff; do not remove materials from Mylar sleeves or sheets.
• Personal scanners, SLR cameras, tripods, and similar equipment are not permitted. No photographs of staff, the room, or materials not previously requested.
• Researchers are responsible for complete citations and compliance with U.S. Copyright law (Title 17).
• For publication or further reproduction, place an order for reproduction services with ASC and obtain permission from the copyright holder.

Initials on the registration page indicate that you have read these conditions and agree to abide by them, and agree to indemnify and hold harmless the University of Louisville from claims arising from use of copies made of ASC materials.
